Italy remains the ultimate summer family crowd-pleaser, its timeless tease of mauve-hued hilltop towns, beautiful beaches, antiquity-filled cities and gastronomy — by which we mean pizza and gelato — winning over every generation. In short, from top to toe and heel, it lives up to the holiday hype.
Italian hotels are wonderful, of course, but self-catering means you’ll really feel at home, and is particularly great if you’re travelling as a bigger gang in peak season.
